wednesday wishlist :: recent etsy faves.

It's been forevs since I've done a Wednesday wishlist! I don't think I'm comfortable with the idea of posting one every week anymore because I don't know about you guys, but when I'm constantly seeing {or posting} pretty things on blogs, my tendency is to be constantly in want. And it's not good to be in constant want... it's depleting. I'm working on being content with what I have (which is so much) and this spending freeze I'm in right now has been helping with that.. it's been good for my soul, even empowering. I'm striving to admire/draw inspiration from the pretty things I see on the interwebs, rather than lust after them. Which is just what I've managed to do from these seriously drool-worthy things on Etsy that I've spotted lately. They are simply too pretty not too share. And major plus - they are all affordable! And you'll be supporting an independent artist, rather than a faceless corporation, which is a beautiful thing.

If you're in a spending freeze like me, I hope that you can draw inspiration from these pretties too. And if you're wondering what to get me for my birthday (two weeks from today :o), you've come to the right place. Just kidding (well, except for a select few of you ;))

turban headband | mint tote bag | linen pillow cover | julia child quote illustration {how had i not heard this quote before?!}

crochet earrings | yellow flower scripture print | kitchen towel
foldover clutch in blue & white ikat | foldover clutch in vintage floral {LOVE}
Do any of you struggle with lusting after things (my major weakness is clothes)/comparing what you have to what others have? How do you combat it?

  1. i LOVE the tote bag and the kitchen towel!! and i constantly struggle with materialism/comparison jealousy but it helps if i just avoid shopping unless i really need something :) out of sight, out of mind! and i used to get jealous of my friends' stuff a lot more, but now i just compare total life circumstances and realize that i have a lot of things that they don't, too. no one has it all.

  3. Great choices! We do have similar taste as a few are already hearted by me on Etsy!
    I totally struggle with lusting after stuff even though it's gorgeous (and I don't mean to bash anything handmade)! I have to remind myself it is stuff and eternal things are more important :) But I am so looking forward to the day I can afford to buy something from Etsy so I have a little wishlist...okay, growing wishlist ;)

  4. This reminds me... I told myself I would go on a spending freeze... totally forgot! I really need to do it again because you're so right- it's more exhausting to want than to be content with what you have.

  6. i love this post! i'm not on a spending freeze, but we have been trying to buy less from the mall near our house and the big corporations, and buy more stuff that's made locally (or at least within canada) instead of in a factory in china or somewhere like that, where the company is getting a huge markup on their cheap products. i love etsy so much, and this is a nice reminder that if i think i need a new kitchen towel or home accessory, i should be looking at small vendors who need our support, rather than at h&m or somewhere else that doesn't care whether i come in or not. yay!

  8. Haha, I'm the same! Sometimes I don't do wishlists for months;)

    My weakness right now is clothes with cute collars! I love them and they suddenly seem to pop up everywhere<3

  9. the headband, the quote painting, the pillow, the tote bag....okay I think we've got the same wants here. great picks!

    and I like your down-to-earth sensibility, too.

    for me, going shopping makes me want things more than I want them when I am home...does that make sense? at home, I love everything I have and want to use it all and not have too much waste. but out shopping, everything is appealing.
    it's helpful to remind myself of that, and also to keep note of the things I actually need/have wanted for a long time.
    that way, thrifting can be useful rather than a trash-collecting trip!

  10. I love the clutch- I am a clothes horse too. My rule with shopping is if I love it then I have to have it.. but love is the key word :)

  11. You have such a good point. I look at a ton of blogs every single day and when you see so many fabulous things, it is so hard to not have the 'wants.' I am in a spending freeze right now, and I'm doing pretty darn good with it. You are right that it isn't good for one's soul. It is depleting for sure. Great post!

  13. It is so hard not to compare yourselves to others. But we have to remember that we all have different talents for different reasons. It's just hard to remember you know?!

  15. Hey Meg!
    Thanks for saying hello! Way to go on the healthy eating. It's hard to stay on top of it - what with all the time I spend washing my greens. Buying the pre-washed stuff is twice as much!
    Anyway, the book I read is called The Detox Beauty Solution by Kimberly Snyder.
    Basically, she's advocating for a vegan lifestyle and talks about the woes of meat and dairy as well as how to "properly pair foods." Like a bagel and cream cheese - improper food paring! Sigh. A lot of it was too much for me to handle. I love cheese and I'm not gonna cut everything out or obsess over the dangers of peanut butter. I did totally agree with the goal of eating 80% raw veggies and fruit though and so I'm trying to up that in take. She also recommends having a green smoothie every morning (which I've been making most mornings for weeks now and love!). It has spinach, romaine, apple, pear, banana, a bit of water and lemon juice and it's really fresh and yummy and keeps everything "running smoothly" on the inside if you get my drift. :)
    Wow! Long comment! What have you been doing to eat more healthfully?

  17. ahhhhh. yes yes and yes. clothing lust is one of my sins in life. I combat it by closing the magazine or web browser and pick up a good book or take a bubble bath or eat some chocolate or spend time with loved ones:-) xoxo
