We have been pining to road trip it to Asheville for years now, and we are finally getting our chance, thanks to a coworker hooking us up with a comp hotel stay, woohoo! (an amazing perk of my day job). And just in time to celebrate five years (!) of marriage. Neither of us have been to the Carolinas before and are thankful to have the chance before we are out of road-trip range. I am excited to finally experience the Blue Ridge mountains and plus I have heard amazing things about the food culture, the music scene and the beer. A few of my favorite things.

For any of you who have been, I would love your recommendations! The only for-sures on our itinerary so far are hiking at Mt. Mitchell (the tallest mountain east of the Rockies!) and dinner at Tupelo Honey. Am thinking about a visit to The Biltmore but am not sure I want to spend the money, it is really worth it? For reference, we will be there for just a long weekend - two days and three nights.
Do any of you have a fun road trip planned in your near future? Hubs and I absolutely love them. I envision many in our Oregonian future.
Oooh! I want to head down there, too! I can't wait to see every thing you do and then do it all myself haha!
ReplyDeleteI have an epic roadtrip planned. EPIC.
oh, I love road trips with my man and have heard awesome things about Asheville. Have a great trip and congrats on 5 years of marriage!
ReplyDeleteWe're flying out to MI in August, but that's the only trip we have planned til after baby comes, sadly. Too much school and G looking for a job. Next year, though, I am going to make sure a fun roadtrip is in the plans!!
ReplyDeleteOh, & have a blast! Enjoy the scene- all of it! Drink a beer for me, k? ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the North Carolina mountains!! Black Balsam Knob is a gorgeous trail. Sliding Rock is fun too, a natural water slide. But only if you like freezing cold water! Have a fantabulous trip!
ReplyDeleteYES! See the Biltmore! It is beautiful, but the real treasures are the gardens and grounds. Well worth it.
ReplyDeleteThe Corner Kitchen in the Biltmore Village is lovely for breakfast.
I've heard good things about the Thirsty Monk, though I haven't been, and 12 Bones for bbq also.
Allow yourself some time to walk in downtown Asheville and browse. There's some great shopping. Malaprop's bookstore is wonderful. I also really like the Chocolate Fetish for some great artisan chocolate.
Have so much fun!
YOU'RE SO CLOSE TO US! a few hours, anyway.
ReplyDeleteMount Mitchell is awesome to hike! we hiked it for our honeymoon.
