{a farewell bonfire}

last weekend, joel and i snazzed up our backyard a bit.
we bought a fire pit from target, hung up a couple of strands of lights
and set up a little cafe table and chairs.

then we had our first gathering of the summer
as a little send-off to my sister who is leaving us for the summer (tear)

she left on monday for springhill camps.
she is working there for the summer on the administrative staff.
she is basically one of the four head honchos.
i am incredibly sad that i won't be spending the summer with her...
being that she previously lived just around the block, i had many grand
summer plans in mind for us (walking to the downtown farmers' market each week,
going for bike rides on the paint creek trail,
garage saleing, picnics, dairy queening it up...)
still, i am very happy for her. i know it is an incredible opportunity
and that it will grow her on so many different levels.
i will just have to visit her plenty.

here are a few photos from her going-away shindig.
she is the cute curly-headed girl with the purple shirt.
*tip : next time you are having a gathering, make these chocolate gooey butter cookies.
people go craaaazy over them & they are so quick and easy!
(but you don't have to tell them that ;)
they are the best right out of the oven, so i prepared the batter ahead of time
and popped 'em in the oven later in the evening.

What a lovely night! The husband and I did a similar thing on our former patio. We scored some vintage patio furniture at a garage sale and then yes - the cheap fire pit - some flower pots. Voila!

hey meg! to get different colors of font? you go in to the layout, then fonts and colors, and instead of choosing one of the few color options that they give you? you can insert the color code of any color into the part that says "edit color hex code" on the right side.

if you go to a website like this:

http://www.december.com/html/spec/color.html

and click on like the warm colors, it will give you a whole pallet of colors and their codes. you can click on any of those options on the first link that i sent you though.

if you find one you like, use that 6 number or letter code, and make sure you put the code in that part "edit color hex code", then hit enter to see it show up!
hope that helps!

the peach color is use is #ffd8ae

I love fire pits - and the lights are awesome! I don't have a backyard, but you've inspired me to try something new with our balcony!
